I recently saw the movie Close and I was shocked by its complex plot, worked in a clean and masterful way, and because it addresses a topic that still remains taboo in society: love for a person of the same gender.
Close is a Belgian drama directed by Lukas Dhont, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022. It tells the story of Leo and Remi, two teenagers who grew up together in a town in France. The close friendship between the two young people transforms into a feeling of love in one of them. The closeness arouses the curiosity of their schoolmates as they are considered as a couple. Leo makes new friends and tries to open a space for himself without Remi, who is deeply affected by his change. Unable to confess his feelings and feeling rejected, Remi decides to take his own life. The tragedy will bring Leo and Remi's mother closer.
Recientemente vi la película Close y quedé impactada por su trama complejo, trabajado de manera limpia y magistral, y porque aborda un tema que todavía sigue siendo tabú en la sociedad: el amor hacia una persona del mismo género.
Close es un drama belga dirigido por Lukas Dhont, se estrenó en el festival de Cannes del año 2022. Relata la historia de Leo y Remi, dos adolescentes que crecieron juntos en una localidad de Francia. La estrecha amistad entre los dos jóvenes se transforma en un sentimiento de amor en uno de ellos. La cercanía despierta la curiosidad de sus compañeros de escuela al ser considerados como pareja. Leo hace nuevas amistades e intenta abrirse un espacio sin Remi, quien se siente profundamente afectado por su cambio. Al no poder confesar sus sentimientos y sentirse rechazado, Remi decide quitarse la vida. La tragedia acercará a Leo y a la madre de Remi.

On the one hand, the film shows us the conflict of every teenager to define his own identity: what I am, what I want and the need to express his feelings. We all know that this is a difficult stage where the affections of those closest to us play a fundamental role in defining the personality of a child who is trying to become an adult. Friendship, in this sense, represents an important bond that helps to strengthen the security and self-acceptance of every young person.
The rapid camera and the persistent gaze of the horizon, let us see the dreams and aspirations that every young person has. However, for an adolescent not having a person to guide him in a moment of confusion can be difficult.
El film nos plantea por un lado el conflicto de todo adolescente por definir su propia identidad: qué soy, qué quiero y de la necesidad de expresar sus sentimientos. Todos sabemos que es esta una etapa difícil donde los afectos de los más cercanos juegan un papel fundamental para definir la personalidad de un niño que intenta ser adulto. La amistad en este sentido, representa un vínculo importante que ayuda afianzar la seguridad y autoaceptación de todo joven.
La cámara rápida y la mirada persistente del horizonte, nos deja ver los sueños y aspiraciones que tiene todo joven. Sin embargo, para un adolescente no contar con una persona que lo oriente en un momento de confusión puede resultar difícil.

The plot becomes much more complex when we are confronted with the love conflict of loving your best friend and not knowing how to confess it.
It is undoubtedly a film that leaves us with several lessons: the need to establish stronger bonds of affection and communication with young people, to accompany them and be tolerant in their most difficult stage of life, to respect them socially as they are.
La trama se vuelve mucho más compleja al plantearnos el conflicto amoroso de querer a tu mejor amigo y no saber cómo confesarlo.
>Es sin duda una película que nos deja varias lecciones: la necesidad de establecer lazos afectivos y de comunicación más fuertes con los jóvenes, acompañarlos y ser tolerantes en su etapa más difícil de la vida, aceptarlos socialmente tal y como son.
