Breaking Down Gender Equality in Simple Terms
Equality is one thing many people around have been clamoring for through the years, especially gender equality. And I must say that I actually agree with this stance. Equality isn't supposed to be something that's negotiated in the first place; we are all humans, and everyone ought to have equal rights and leverage towards anything. No one should be set aside, ignored, or placed above the other in any aspect. Only when we have that can we get to a point where one gender doesn't feel like they're being ill-treated, cheated, or marginalized. But then what actually is gender equality?
When we talk about equality, it basically has to do with having equal access, right, and the likes to everything, and when we talk about gender equality, it literally talks about having both genders, men and women, have the same respect, opportunity, and rights to everything in life, with no unique treatment or respect above one gender. Everyone is equal with no special regard or treatment either by the law or by people around the world. I know you might want to ask if this is good, and well, my response to that is why not? We are all humans and have our individual differences and uniqueness, so everyone should have equal rights.
Despite my agreement to gender equality, I must say that having inequality might want to bring about someone upset with the way things are currently in the world, which I actually agree with and think is the way to go. I mean, I know I might sound a bit biased toward the male gender, but then it is what it is, because I'm only speaking from the perspective of what I see and how gender inequality affects me as a man. Yes, I know it affects women in a way too. So what are some of the orders of the day that equality might affect? Well, one is that we might need to stop the notion that women are weak and can't do what a man can do, because after all we all want equality, so we must start that from our mindset.
Secondly, I think equality might bring about the need for both men and women in marriage or relationships to give equal stake to their home when it comes to provisions or catering for the house; that is, each gender must be ready to give 50/50 percent of everything. We're all equal after all, so inequality mustn't be bred in our house for any reason whatsoever. Thirdly, laws that give leverage to women when it comes to issues of divorce and splitting of the man's assets must be eradicated, because now we're equal; also, one gender can't be given priority in case of the right to custody of the children due to their age or whatever, since we're riding on the wings of equality, and we mustn't harbor any law or whatever that keeps inequality at bay.
So that's about it on my take and understanding of what gender equality means; it's a lifestyle and way of life that gives no room for gender bias or favoritism due to any reason whatsoever. What do you think about it? I know I might sound a bit biased in sight of the opposite gender, but then it's just a few takes from my point of view, so I'd love to learn their take as well.
