A time bomb.
Once in a blue moon.
We talked and played all day, the love between us never ceased. You were my best friend and nothing stopped us anytime. But time never permits us.
To my friend Lucky, who is now married in a new city, we all live in the same small town of Cabot. And the bond of our friendship, has never be broken. The little town of Cabot called us twins of the same head. Because we are not taller than each other.
I didn't know of it, chances to speak to each other become factors. Days are gone, weeks and months are gone. The memories of our present began to fade up.
My parents began to notice the changes in my smiles, lately, because Lucky is the only friend I keep up with. The streets began to miss our present. Depression started catching up with me. I didn't know about his plans to leave, and we never had the discussion.
But I see him leaving with Aunty Anita, her step Mum. The only opportunity I had to see him before leaving was a quick hand wave I got from him, inside a truck.
Watching her, sailed through the market truck, heading to Lagos. We hardly speak. Today is Thursday, Aunty Anita had called daddy to schedule her next calling on Friday day. But they didn't speak for long, and I didn't speak too, Due to the poor network connection. I overheard Aunty Anita, saying, she will call back at the Same time on Friday, the next day, before I could reach out for the phone.
Immediately, I glanced my eyes on the wall clock; that morning, it was 8 am. Tears rolled down my eyes. Because I will be off to school by then. And lucky might also be off to school too.
I slept that night, with my eyes halfway awake. Keeping in prayers, and in mind, that it should be a new day. So that, I can speak with Lucky again; the last time we spoke, was on the 1st of December. This is another 1st of December.
And Aunty Anita has promised to call. So if we speak this one, I will never have the chance to speak with her again. Until the 1st of December next year.
Our friendship becomes a time bomb. That is moving by the trail of time; making it a once in a blue moon communication in our friendship.
