Pollination by Insect

Definition

Pollination is a process in which the male reproductive material (Pollen) is transported from the male reproductive part (Anther) to the female reproductive part (Stigma) in the flower of plants. The pollen is transported by a different medium such as air, insects, birds, and water. In this lecture, I will only discuss pollination caused by insects.

Pollination by Insects

Pollination caused by insects is one of the most important methods of pollination. It occurs when an insect visits a plant. The insect sits on the plant and the pollen from the anther is stuck with his feet. As the insect flies and visits another flower some of the pollen drops from his feet and falls into the stamen. The insect causes cross-pollination which is useful in terms of reproduction and high production.

In the given picture you can observe a honey bee pollinating the flower.
