SMAP Round 19 - Eastern Bluebird

This Eastern bluebird was a welcome surprise for me at the end of one of my recent walks. The spread of this bird species is a great success story in in North American conservation. Though threatened by habitat loss, pesticide use, and competition with invasive species from the late 1800s through the 1900s, sustained conservation efforts dating back to the 1930s have since help the species to not only recover but thrive in the modern day. Having learned to take full advantage of manmade birdhouses, Eastern bluebird populations have largely rebounded from a notable decline in their population in the 1970s and are increasing across numbers in most of their native range.
