Good bones

Time to look for a single family home for my family.
We had a town home during the 2008 housing crisis.
Did not work out too well.
Been in apartment world ever since.
Right now rent is out of control, $1,800 and rising..
I think we can get at least 3 bedrooms for $1,800.
My only concern is windows.
I have more concerns than windows, but for this conversation and post, if an old house needs new windows, open panes could mean new bugs or cold winter drafts until they're replaced.
New challenges not faced in old apartments.
Just wanted to start new discussion.
