Two Hours As a Night Shift Waitress

With a frenzied pace she runs back and forth. Miles every night. Ticket book, pages flying as she writes the orders. Clean that booth. Holler at the cook. Wipe that counter. Carry endless plates of food. Quickly run outside, get a drag on the cigarette. Run back in. Take money from the customers. Hurry up. Get the food from the window. Don't mix it up.

Suddenly it is quite. A lull in business. Hurry up get the floor cleaned up. Wipe down that table....Remember the front counter. Where is that order of fries?.....remember to add cheese to it. What time is it. My feet hurt. The bars just closed...Next rush coming up.......
