Can honesty be measured?

A very appropriate challenge for this weekend to talk about honesty, but let's see what it's all about.

Honesty should be a quality that every person should have, it can be the basis of relationships between people, it should guarantee trust between people.

But how can we tell if a person is honest or not if we don't live it or experience it personally, to tell if others are honest we have to look for certain qualities in our relationship with them, namely fairness, honesty.

To be honest this means to tell the truth up front in any situation that in some cases may be to our advantage and in some cases to our disadvantage, depending on the situation.

Having many needs, every day we visit quite often the shops where we do our shopping for the house (food, drinks, liquids) or for ourselves (clothes, perfumes), sometimes in the checkout process we can miss mistakes.

A few weeks ago I happened to run down to the corner store to buy some groceries, maybe I'm a little weird, but every time I get my receipt I compare it to what's in my shopping cart to see if what I paid for is in the cart.

After checking the receipt, I realized that one item was not on the receipt and had not been charged.

I know, the big stores are equipped with high-tech checkout systems, so it's pretty hard to walk out of the store with something you didn't pay for, but there are still small neighborhood stores where these systems don't exist, so if the saleslady isn't careful, you might walk out of the store with something you didn't pay for.

Let's avoid the thought of walking out of the store with something you didn't pay for, intentionally, we're talking about a crime here, but that's not the topic today.

The item that wasn't cashed in wasn't worth much, so I could easily overlook the fact that I didn't pay for it, it just wasn't blowing a hole in the sky.

I didn't think too long, I took the receipt and went back home to the shop, when I entered the shop the shop assistant with a smile on her lips asked me if I forgot to buy something.

No, the reason I went back to the store was that the saleswoman didn't charge me for a product and I came back to pay.

The saleswoman couldn't believe it, she told me she had never been in a similar situation before.

I know, there may be some people who may feel that that salesperson is not well trained or that it is okay to pay for her mistake or negligence.

My opinion is that by going back to the store and paying for the product that was not on the receipt, I showed that I respect myself first and foremost and that I respect my principles.

Whatever the value of the item, I was never tempted to pass on the thought that I hadn't paid for it, but honesty and morality pushed me to do my best to pay for it.

I conclude by saying that honesty is not measured by value, but its presence depends on each of us, so being honest is not a difficulty or a burden.
