discourse (replayed)

discourse

when words left us, forests stared in obsolete mediation
rivers plundered endless valleys
keening in whispers of things untamed
closed doors opened... letting in the kraken

when words left us the air was silence - screaming
an echo as solid as chiseled rock reverberating against ocean floors

when words left us i flew at the moon, hoping to turn it the other way
to prevent the profound stillness of water turning to ice in your eyes

when words left us you drew pages of nothing on the wall
filled in the emptiness with splotches of grey so it would seem love was just sleeping

when words left us we talked with our eyes
our hands had fallen off ~
they had nothing to say

this piece is a reworked poem, one that i released over a year ago, and one of my earliest photo essay posts on steemit. the post earned three cents and was upvoted by four people.

when i write, i try to capture an emotion in words, to grab the essence of isolation or fragility. it's not always possible to encompass reality, no matter how i might try.

this poem describes the point in a relationship where we have done everything we can to salvage hope, yet realize what was once our shining reality is now a fading dream.
