This time, the trip had a different rhythm, starting with a base in the capital of Pinar del Río province, at the Hotel Pinar del Río, an affordable and practical option for exploring our meeting place.

The Embrace of the Mogotes

As soon as you enter the valley, the landscape captivates you. It's the same familiar scene, yet it never fails to move you: the imposing mogotes, those limestone formations with rounded peaks, emerge like sentinels amidst the intense red of the earth and the green of the tobacco fields. The landscape is an open book of geology, a stark contrast between the vertical slopes of these mountains and the fluvial-marine plains of the valley, a scene that Federico García Lorca likened to "sleeping elephants."

The immersion in nature is complete. As on that first visit, a visit to the Cueva del Indio (Indian Cave) was essential. The sculptures in the cave depict the activities of the slaves who escaped to the caves. Emerging into the light amidst the vegetation remains an almost mystical experience.

An oasis of cool water that, after hiking among mogotes and caves, became a true luxury.

This was a peaceful moment to reflect on the beautiful sights, with the Pinar del Río breeze and the feeling of having connected, once again, with the purest essence of Cuban nature.
I must return to this place soon, as it is being evaluated for designation as a Global Geopark, and the elements that will support this designation must be provided by researchers from our institute.

El mayor atractivo de la estancia fue, sin duda, la piscina. Un oasis de agua fresca que, después de caminar entre mogotes y cuevas, se convirtió en un lujo.

Este fue un momento de paz para reflexionar sobre las bellezas vistas, con la brisa pinareña y la sensación de haber conectado, una vez más, con la esencia más pura de la naturaleza cubana.
Dentro de poco debo volver a este lugar que está siendo evaluado para ser declarado Geoparque Mundial y, los elementos que deben fundamentar ese nombramiento tiene que ser dada por investigadores de nuestro instituto.
