My Big step this year

When I think about the big decisions I’ve made recently, one stands out clearly, going back to pursue my degree. Even though the full impact hasn’t shown itself yet, I know this step is shaping my future in ways I will soon begin to see. Education has never been a bad investment, and choosing to continue mine feels like planting a seed that will grow in the right season.

Before now, I had already completed my Higher National Diploma. For a long time, I carried the intention of becoming a BSc holder, but life doesn’t always go the way we plan. I found myself in the polytechnic system due to reasons that were beyond my control at the time. Still, I did my best, completed my HND proudly, and kept the dream of getting a degree somewhere in my heart.

This year, something shifted in me. Instead of postponing my goals or wishing things were different, I decided to take action. I put in for my BSc, and even though the journey came with its own challenges, I am already seeing the difference in how I think, plan, and see myself. For me, this decision wasn’t just about getting another certificate, it was about proving to myself that it is never too late to keep growing.

I enrolled for a part-time programme because I wanted a path that allowed me to study while still taking care of other responsibilities. This balance has made the journey easier and more fulfilling. I can work, learn, improve myself, and still move closer to my long-term goals. Sometimes it gets stressful.

So, deciding to pursue my degree is one of the most important steps I have taken for myself in a long time. It has given me renewed confidence and a sense of direction. Even though the full change hasn’t happened yet, I know it will. And when it does, I will be grateful that I chose not to limit myself. I am happy I made this decision, and I am proud of the person I am becoming because of it.
