Easter Tree with Crochet Baskets Filled with Eggs and Blossoms
Easter has always been such a lovely time to celebrate. Spiritually, it holds deep significance, more so than Christmas really, but in Western culture, Christmas tends to get more emphasis with all the lights, music, and gift-giving traditions. Still, Easter is the very foundation of Christian belief. Without it, the whole faith sort of unravels.
To bring a bit of colour and joy into our Easter, I put together a last-minute Easter tree decorated with crochet.
I began by heading into the woods in search of a branch to use. As usual, one of my cats, Coco this time, tagged along to keep me company.
There were plenty of branches to choose from, but I found it tricky to pick one that felt right.
Eventually, I settled on a beautiful yew branch and decided to keep some of its leaves for a natural touch.
I stabilised the branch in a clay jar with stones and water to keep it alive and decorated it with tiny flowers floating.
My plan was to hang little crochet baskets from the branch and fill them with chocolate eggs.
The basket pattern I came up with is very simple:
Using assorted excess yarns and an appropriate crochet hook.
Start with a magic ring and 12 double crochets (dc)
1 dc around each dc to form the ridged edge of the base
Continue with dc rounds until you reach your desired height
Chain for the handle
Then just fill them with chocolate egg!
I made a few colours, the chocolate egg sits nicely inside, and hanging them up was such fun.
I also crocheted an assortment of flowers to go with the baskets, leaving the ends untucked and just letting them hang.
I added a few sprigs of baby's breath flowers to the baskets to give them a fresh, delicate touch.
I liked how the wind blew those hanging yarns, giving the tree a bit of life. Not bad for a quick Easter tree!
Happy Easter, everyone. I hope you're all having a lovely day!
