Exploring Espresso Distribution Techniques and Their Impact on Extraction Process
58mm Coffee Distributor and Tamper
By: Seven Miles Coffee Roasters
In this video, the Coffee Science and Education Centre explores the concept of espresso distribution and tests various techniques and tools to determine their impact on the extraction process. They measured extraction time and total dissolved solids (TDS) to evaluate the consistency and strength of the espresso. The results revealed that while specific distribution techniques did slightly affect extraction time and TDS, there was no clear winner. The recommendation is to use a simple palm tapping technique consistently, as it is quick, cost-effective, and hygienic. Overall, the video suggests that the choice of distribution technique matters less than using a technique consistently in your workflow.
