Comparing Two Tampers: Slow and Precise vs. Quick and Level
LuxHaus 58mm Espresso Tamper - Premium Barista Coffee Tamper with 100% Flat Stainless Steel Base
By: Decent Espresso
In this video, the presenter compares two different versions of tampers for coffee preparation. The first version, known as the Version 1 tamper, has grooves and a sharp edge, allowing for a tight fit and deep tamping. However, it requires slower movements to prevent the puck from getting sucked out. The second version, called the Version 2 tamper, focuses on achieving a level tamp with quickness of use. It features a spring on the leveling part, ensuring a consistently level tamp. The fit is less tight to avoid suction issues. The Version 2 tamper also allows for a technique called nutation, which can produce better shots, especially for those experiencing uneven extraction. Overall, the Version 1 tamper offers a precise, slow tamping experience, while the Version 2 tamper provides a quicker, level tamp with the added potential of nutation.
