Winter Garden

Hi there!

I have neglected the hell out of these plants, but they’re still doing ok.
The strawberries will probably just stay here for the winter, some of the smaller ones may have to be put into bigger pots though so they aren’t damaged by the frost. In spring I’ll plant them in some new beds 🙂

I started some kale, herbs and some adorable little peas I got from Baker Creek.

They’re called Tom Thumb Peas and they’re perfect for pots in the house!
They will flower and produce peas with less growth than most other types.

I figure they’re perfect for an indoor winter garden ❤️

It does get chilly here, and by talking with family and friends who grow here, I’m learning the differences and how to combat certain issues.

I had already started covering existing garden beds with leaves, so as to protect it. My aunt mentioned that the worse damage comes from the freeze and thaw, the plants get warm, start to wake up, then bam, frozen again.
A very thick layer of mulch ensures a good freeze that won’t unthaw all the way until it’s actually time for it! 🙂

I’m extremely excited for this coming growing season, and I’m not even going to let winter stop me this year!! ❤️
