Selling used games using blockchain technology
Robot Cache aims to offer gamers a platform to sell used games by offering 25% back in their own token IRON. IRON is an ERC20 token maintained on the Ethereum network and launches the second quarter of 2018.
IRON can be purchased and earned by reselling games but it also can be mined by gamers using the platform. Total supply for the token is claimed to be 300 Million units and up to 105 million will be sold in a token sale.
Getting IRON won't come cheap as the public presale minimum purchase is $50,000 and for institutions, it is a cool half million with a presale discount up to 25% and up to 40% for institutions.
As a gamer, I don't really see this taking off as there are a lot of things I think will come in the way. Although many gamers sell their games at huge loses at stores like Game Stop, most of these users are console users. I highly doubt Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo will get involved in this project. Console games also sell for far more than 25% and as much as 85% if you beat it fast and sell it shortly after release.
I also don't see the PC gaming giant Steam cooperating as they would build their own blockchain if they were going in that direction.
No information has been released about any devs that have signed up already. There are some attractive benefits for developers with only 5% publishing fees compared to 30% on most platforms with complete freedom of setting their own price (both sale and resale).
Public Presale is two weeks starting Feburary 15th.
Although they have some six partners promoted on their site, none of them are game developers or even a popular publisher.
Although it is a facinating idea, I'm going to sit on the sidelines and just watch how it plays out.
