Beautiful Silver From Malta Featuring a Golden Eagle!
Happy Thursday everyone! The weekend is quickly approaching, which is always welcome. It's been busy around here, always more to get get done than hours in the day. And that's just dealing with things in the yard around the house. I'm not even counting work! lol
As usual, I am on the prowl for any good deals on silver out there. It's not badly priced as of late so investing is a little less expensive. However, my budget is tight, things have gotten so expensive here in California that it is hard to keep up with all the bills. As a result I haven't been picking up much new shiny stuff... Maybe it's a sign that it's finally time to sell the place and move to Florida?
Anyway, back to silver. I found a really nice item offered by Malta this year that comes in a couple of options. This first one is really pretty, antiqued silver highlighted with ruthenium. Isn't that gorgeous work of art?

About the coin:
This is one solid Troy ounce of silver produced by the Germania Mint. Only 1,000 are being produced and the asking price is $249. Pretty steep in my opinion, as much as I like it I'm not willing to spend that much to own one!
However, they are also making a regular silver version available (gold too, but way too expensive.) This version is much more affordable at only $100 which is about a $40 premium over the price of silver. Not too bad! They have a limit of mintage of 10,000 on these:

Eagles eating snakes has long been a theme celebrated on coins. It's been on Mexican coinage as part of the national seal for ages. It denotes the noble and good (the eagle) versus the evil (being the snake.) The big question is do eagles really like to eat snakes?
Eagles vs Snakes
Golden eagle hunting, rspb.org.uk
Scientists studying eagles to better understand their diets will tend to dig through what's left in their nests to better understand their culinary choices. As it turns out, small mammals are the preferred item on the menu by far. Also included are smaller birds. In the case of bald eagles there is a fair amount of fish involved as well. However, there is a very small percentage of snakes bones found as well.
Typically the eagles appear to go after the non venomous species of snakes. They make up the largest portion of snake remains found. Notwithstanding, some venomous species are there as well. In the Americas the prairie rattlesnake is the most common and the European viper is the most common in Europe.
Is their a risk to the eagle hunting venous snakes? There is always a small risk, but they are by far superior in almost every way to the snake. They tend to attack from above in high speed dives seizing the serpent close behind it's head with it's sharp talons and smash it's spine. Most of the time the snake never sees it coming. Even if the snake were able to strike, the eagles legs are coated with thick leathery skin that is resistant to bites. So the chance of being bitten is astronomically low. In conclusion, those poisonous serpents are very much on the menu!
You'll note that I didn't include any pictures of snakes being consumed for those with weak stomachs. They are available online is you feel like searching it up however!
That will wrap up the post for today, I hope you enjoyed. Please feel free to leave any comments or questions below, and as always thanks for all of the support. I really to appreciate it! Have a great day everyone!
