A Sick World #HealthyConcern

The world is sick and requires some great healing. Have you seen the news lately? What is happening on your end? On this end, my heart is sinking fast to hopelessness. Fear is taking over my remaining sense of feeling safe and the paranoia to be more alert is feeding off of it.

Women are being killed at an alarming rate in my country. It's depressing. Domestic violence has gone overboard and gender violence is on the rise for the past two years. Two pregnant women were hijacked then found having died gruesome deaths. University students have been found dead in their hostels. An elderly woman (nineties) was raped and killed a few weeks back. Should I go on?

There was a wife who was killed and buried at the backyard of her house by her husband a few months back. She was nursing a three month child when it happened. Another one was clubbed to death by her closest friend over her own husband. The matter is in court. And before that one whose head was separated from her body and left in her bathtub. Human beings can be worse than animals!

Femicide is getting comfortable within us and that is hella scary. I believed that shit is for horror movies but now I see where such scripts are derived from. Who thought that Africa would get here so fast... We were overly discriminated upon due to the toxic levels of patriarchy but we were not being killed as we are now.

It doesn't end there... young girls are getting raped in boarding schools. Others are dying in the hands of the same teachers entrusted to take care of them. Currently there is a national outrage about a girl who died three days ago through some unknown circumstances and the principal tried to cover it up. Also one about two girls who died while undergoing FGM at this day and age.

There's no where safe. So one has to extra cautious about their personal safety. And it's not only in my country, it's the trend in Africa especially South Africa and West Africa. Our generation is being killed. As patriarchy is loosening up its grip, gender violence and femicide are taking root to replace it.

With all that in mind and all these heartbreaking tragedies all over, I can't help but worry. The Ethiopian airlines flight #ET302 one cost 159 lives. Imagine all those souls plunging to their deaths just six minutes after take off. Malawi has partially flooded and poor farmers families are dying. Lagos Nigeria are mourning losing young children to a collapsed building. Not forgetting the weight that comes with reading about the crimes against humanity going on in the DRC. I feel drained.

I think I stop spewing bile there but to be honest, some truths are so sad. Like how life keeps handing my kind lemons out here just because we insist the future is female. Or how corruption is still costing people their lives through collapsing buildings. I have seen it happening countless times in Kenya. Or how it is possible for politicians to fly themselves in private jets in Africa but there can never be fuel to take food and medical supplies to cut out communities during civil wars or floods! SMH.
