Water Vs Fire
After hiking to a few waterfalls recently, I decided that I wanted to do some steel wool shots at one of them. A friend and I decided on Lower Chedoke falls in the west end of Hamilton Ont.
We arrived right after a heavy snowfall that didn't stay on the ground too much and it looked perfect for long exposure!
My friend brought some roman candle fireworks and I recommended adding them to the steel wool shots from the top of the waterfall, but he wanted to shot them towards the waterfall from behind the cameras. I wasn't big on the idea but they were his so I wasn't going to not shoot it lol.
They give a very cool effect! But heavily over powered everything else in the shot, from that angle. So it was time to climb up and spin on top of the falls.
Producing a couple of great shots, we wanted to do more. But when my friend started to climb up, he slipped and took a good fall. Injuring his leg, wrist and giving him a good bump and cut on his forehead (I am 90% sure he had a concussion). So the mission then became getting him out of there safely. Thankfully we got out without an issue and now know what is possible. I will be going to more waterfalls for light painting and steel wool again!
