AFTER A HECTIC DAY...

At times, work could be so overwhelming that you’d just get home and not feel like doing anything but crash onto that tiny bed of yours. Although, my type of work has not graduated into the kind of conventional one such as 9-5 or self-employment where there is more or less no time frame. What I could refer to as work ranges from school work to house chores. But it is mostly not any different from the usual features of conventional work/job. And it could be breathtaking too.

This is brought about by the weekend engagement prompt by galenkp@galenkp, you could hop on it here.

Unwinding
How do you unwind after a hectic day at work? Meditation, a hobby, reading, listening to music, cooking, yoga, gaming, an intimate interlude? Tell us how you relax and unwind and why you feel that method is the most beneficial to you.

Very well, when I spend almost half the day outside, doing certain tasks or nothing at all – yes, you do not know that doing nothing is also work – well, for me it is; I tend to feel tired till I get home or my abode. On getting home, I always take a few minutes to rest and just slowly let out the tension that has built up in my body. During this time, I want little or next to no disturbance at all as I could flare up anytime if any stray anything including humans comes around to try to ruin my moment.

After a little rest to let the tension flow like water, I’d go into the bathroom - or the ocean, as the case may be - to take a shower. I think I need to add another thing here. One other reason I rest a little when I get home Is also that I heard, for example, coming in from the hot sun and then taking your bath with cold water or one with temperature difference from the outside is quite dangerous to one’s health. And I bet no one would want a warm bath when you have been almost cooked by the sun up there. When I take my bath during this period, I do not dry myself with my towel, I just let the air do the job thereby adding some cooling effect to my skin.

Now, it is getting to the weird part ..

For me and relative to the prompt, cooking is the last thing on my mind when coming in tired – I’d rather have bought something to snack on to at least buttress any intending hunger till I feel okay to cook or otherwise. Let me put this straight, I do not think I have some specific ritual when I get in tired, apart from having a cold shower. What I do just comes as the spirit leads. This means I do different things at different times to unwind.

At times, when I am at my parents' house, during a time like that, I’d just stay at the verandah standing, especially if I had been sitting all day, for example in school. Standing there and just glancing towards the horizon and seeing the roofs of houses. In my community, almost all the houses are bungalows and my side is located on what I could call a hill or a highland. Hence, the reason I could look at the roofs of houses. Here, I do not just look aimlessly but as I do there are some thoughts or ideas I am incubating and processing in my brain. I know this is not meditation but maybe a workaholic form of meditation though 🤣.

Back in school, I could do the above but not as often. Most times here, what I do is to pick my phone and play some solemn or slow songs like Michael Jackson’s Earth Song – of course, I am a big fan of MJ. And simultaneously, I check my social media if I had not been active for the most time that day. I do check my LinkedIn more often during this time, others like Whatsapp may come in later on.

Lately, I have not been a fan of mobile games that much so I guess gaming I ruled out. Instead, I surf the internet like a scalar quantity – no direction. I start by just searching for something that strucks my mind and then start clicking on anything my hand can reach, at least reasonably, on a website and then the while loop continues till I get tired. Maybe, signaling the end of the rest or unwinding period, and to do something else maybe cooking.

Thanks for reading, amigo! Gracias!
