Micromanagement
A true educator inspires, guides and empowers students to embrace knowledge, not confine them within arbitrary rules. The role of a lecturer should be to foster creativity and critical thinking, not to treat students as mere subjects of control.
I know rules are great to keep students or should I say humans generally in check but there are some rules most lecturers set up that are very unnecessary.
Some lecturers are just too complicated. There's this particular course I'm studying for this semester and the lecturer is something else. He not only takes attendance himself but is also very strict when it comes to students' handwriting.
He's just taking us back to when we were learning handwriting in kindergarten. How to curve the letters of the alphabets if they're lower or uppercase and how to place them on lines in our notebooks 😂.
He gave us the letters of the alphabet(upper and lower case). Both in computerized writing style and asked us to write as seen in our notebooks. The name of the course is discourse analysis. Its main focus is with how people talk and converse correctly and also how conversation is understood by using the brain. I don't see how handwriting relates to this course in any way😂.
In his tests/exams according to what he told us, there are lots of rules to follow. One is handwriting, the second is definition of words before attempting any question in exams or tests, the third is making sure to leave indented paragraphs and all indentations must be on a straight line. I guess for this, I'll always go to the exams hall with a ruler.😂
I enjoy the course, as every class we have is interactive but the "every class new difficult rule" thing is killin me. The constant imposition of ever changing rules and micromanagement by a lecturer not only hinders students' learning experience but also undermines their autonomy and growth as independent thinkers.
