Because Reading Alone Is Never Enough…

Some days ago, I made a post asking for book recommendations, and most of you came through for me which I’m really grateful for. I’ve gathered the books suggested, and I’m already deep into one of them. When I say deep, I mean it. This one is a whopping 802 pages. But guess what? I’m already 300 pages in, and I can’t put it down. Btw I’m taking this one slow because the events are too delicate. I don't want to miss them too soon. So I’m savoring every line with care.

That said, The book is American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins, recommended by riverflows. So far, the story is everything I hoped for and more. The author’s magical use of syntax makes every page worth savoring. And then there’s the sprinkling of Spanish throughout the book. It absolutely thrills me. I don’t speak Spanish, but every time I bump into a word or phrase, I pause, run it through a translator, and smile at the beauty of learning something new in such an unexpected way. It actually feels like the book is giving me more than just a story I craved. It’s also giving me language, culture and rhythm.

Now here’s why I wrote this though…

I kind of don’t want to do this beautiful journey alone. So, if you love reading, dissecting characters, and talking about plot twists as though the people on the page live next door, come read American Dirt with me.

Let’s turn this into a shared adventure, compare notes, argue over the character(s) choices, and maybe even laugh at how attached we get to fictional lives.

I honestly believe reading gets even richer when it’s done in community, and this book feels like the perfect chance to build that. So, if you’re up for it, grab a copy of American Dirt and let’s read together. Who knows? We might just stumble upon our new favorite character and have the best time dissecting them.
