Simple Tips For More Secure and Safer Banking
At the start of 2018, we would like to share some simple tips to make your banking, both offline and online, more secure and safer. Here are 6 things that you need to remember.
Your bank will never ask you to enter critical and sensitive banking information such as your ATM pin, email password, and CVV/CVC to login to your account. Never enter it if prompted to. This is a common method of hackers when phishing for information.
Emails with a generic greeting such as "Dear Valued Customer" should be taken as a risk. This is a common way of instilling panic or sense of security as hackers will send emails like this pretending to be a legitimate corporation. These emails are usually infected with viruses or embedded with links that would ask you to fill out a form for your personal information. Do not fill it up.
Install the latest anti-virus software on your computer and smartphone to make sure that you are protected from viruses, spywares and malware that could easily take your private information from you.
Always check your bank details and credit card statements regularly to track your expenditures and report any suspicious activity that you see. If your bank statements are still ink and paper, dispose them properly and ensure that sensitive information are unreadable, think of a shredder, to avoid identity theft.

If you are checking your accounts online, do not use free public WiFi connections, and avoid computer rental shops. If possible, use your personal computer/phone and trusted connection like your very own mobile data or WiFi at home. Moreover, it is highly recommended to download the app of your bank when doing transactions using your smartphone.
If you happen to respond or reply to a suspicious message, SMS or email, then you must call and report it immediately to your bank. The same action is highly recommended when your credit cards or debit cards are stolen or lost.
It is not bad to be vigilant and cautious when banking physically or online. We need to handle our bank details and assets securely and with utmost care.
