Wat Tha Luang, a beautiful ancient temple in Phichit province

In the past, Thai temples were centers of society, serving various religious ceremonies, community educational, cultural, meditation practices, funeral rites, social gatherings on various occasions; i.e. village committee meetings, festivals, etc.

(I myself like to visit Thai temples, actually not for those purposes, but for admiring the beautiful architecture of the buildings in the temples and taking photos…)

Wat Tha Luang is one good example. This temple is a beautiful ancient temple in Phichit province which is located on the banks of the Nan River.

The temple grounds have a unique characteristic, i.e. it’s divided into two sections by Busaba Road. One section comprises the main chapel and the sermon hall. Another one section is mainly of the monks' residence area, the Buddhist school, the cremation area, and the people's meditation area.

Wat Tha Luang has the Luang Pho Phet Buddha statue as its principal Buddha statue. Luang Pho Phet is considered the spiritual center and heart of the people of Phichit. People actually pay homage to Luang Pho Phet for good fortune. (it’s unfortunate that I don’t have any photos of Luang Pho Phet.)

Because Wat Tha Luang is located next to the Nan River, it is the venue for the traditional longboat racing competition every year.
