CITY ARCHIVE: AN UNSCHOOLING EXCURSION

Have you ever been in your city archive?

I had no idea, what it was like, until I didn't go there with my son some days ago.

It was a free excursion that was organised by the city kids library, and I was glad we had a chance to see a new interesting place where there was no free access to people.

I supposed it would be interesting for me but I wasn't sure my son would like this excursion - the archive isn't a very interesting place for kids, yeah?

I was mistaken!! He was involved into the excursion from the first minutes! The woman led us from one hall to another, showed us great rooms where millions of documents are kept, told us about definite rules and conditions of their keeping. It is a real science!! That's why they still keep some docs that are more than 100 years old!! And they still look good!

Moreover, the archive isn't only a place for keeping docs but also a place where they can be restorated, and it's a real science too! It's a very co,plicated and long process that require a lot of attention and skills, just like restoration of world art masterpieces!

it's the most expensive scanner for docs in the country! it costs more than 1,000,000 rubles, and only 2 cities have them in the whole region.

We were full of emotions and impressions walking there and feeling the air of history there..

In the end my son said that he wanted to be an archive worker now:))) It's a great sign he really liked this place!

And it's great now he has an idea what it is, and how it works.

To be honest, I had no idea about it, and I'm glad I visited it too;)
