kennt ihr das auch, dass auf einmal mehrere Versionen eurer mühsam gepflegten Passwort-Datenbank auf der Platte auftauchen, und ihr jetzt Angst habt, beim Zusammenführen (bzw. Löschen der anderen Versionen) wichtige Passwörter zu verlieren (oder zumindest euch Extraarbeit zu bereiten)? Fret not!!1

Ein Rust-Programm auf Github, welches schnell gebaut ist und verspricht, die Datenbank Eintrag für Eintrag zu vergleichen, diff ähnlich (unter Linux etc.). Tatsächlich habe ich das Tool schon öfter selbst verwendet und bin mit der Usability sehr zufrieden.

Da ich euch sicher nicht meine eigene Datenbank zeige, habe ich hier schnell mal ein Mock Up hochgefahren: (zwei Demo-DBs erstellt)

Das Ganze führt, in keepass-diff hineingesteckt, zu folgendem Ergebnis:

Wirklich praktisch, finde ich. Wem trotzdem suspekt ist (und durchaus zurecht), seine Passwörter in ein unbekanntes Open-Source-Tool zu stecken, dem rate ich an dieser Stelle, schnell einen Docker-Container hochzufahren, das Internet zu ziehen, und den Diff dort durchzuführen. Das sollte hinreichend sicher sein.

A Rust program on Github that builds quickly and promises to compare the database entry by entry, diff similarly (on Linux, etc.). In fact, I've used the tool several times myself and am very happy with its usability.

Since I'm certainly not showing you my own database, here's a quick mock up: (two demo DBs created)

The whole thing, plugged into keepass-diff, leads to the following result:

Really practical, I think. If you are still suspicious (and rightly so) of putting your passwords into an unknown open source tool, my advice at this point is to quickly boot up a Docker container, pull the internet, and run the diff there. That should be sufficiently secure.
