Barrios is still to this day one of the most revered classic guitar virtuoso of the early twentieth century. His amazing technical ability on the instrument allowed him to write pieces mixing the traditional folk music of his native Paraguay with the baroque influence of Bach among others. This mixture, as well as his taste for the religious, culminated with his 1921 masterpiece, La Catedral.
