I got scammed
Lost 153€ on Facebook Marketplace.
I thought this wouldn't happen to me, but here I am...
What I learned:
-> Whatever the description says, it's of ZERO value. This particular offer was for a GPU - sold at ~25% of the usual prices. Claimed he had several available, forgotten stockpile of GPUs. He claimed he wanted to sell them at the right price so people would have a chance... most cards are sold by scalpers. He wrote he was willing to ship them or sell hand to hand in another town between 8:00-17:00.
So I thought it seemed legit. But I guess If I would have chosen the hand to hand method he would have ghosted me.
-> Can't trust a profile that seemingly looks legitimate. Bio, pictures, posts, it had over 500 friends from which I had 2 friends in common. (Afterwards I asked my friends about this guy and long and behold... neither of them knew him or why they were friends in the first place.)
-> Trust the red flags.
- I did a Google search and didn't find almost any information about that person outside of FB.
- He claimed to have a business, but I didn't find it in the registry.
- His bank account was in a different country's bank.
- FB account was ~1.5y old.
-> Don't be greedy. Know when something is too good to be true :(
-> NEVER send money in advance.
-> Don't use FB marketplace.
