Building my shed
Well, I say shed, but really it's going to be an external room. When completed, weatherproofed, and dried out, it will be a library and writing space, not somewhere to dump garden tools and things you use once a year at the beach. We already have a shed for that (you can call me Arthur 'two sheds' Jackson if you know that reference)
A majority of the materials being utilised have previously been used for something else. The base is being made from a couple of bookcases I built in the previous house - these in-turn were made from old scaffolding boards. The flooring is from sheet-ply we'd used in the loft/attic of the previous house. The external walls will be constructed from decking which came from a friend's garden - it had only been down for 12-18 months but when they moved the landlord wanted it gone.
That doesn't make it fully ready to use. It was taken out in a hurry and is still full of screws & nails. Some parts had been covered in earth and have become spongy. It all needs a wash.
Yesterday I began removing screws, and stacking so there can be a bit more airflow around the wood.
The remainder is sat in the space the shed will be built in. The shed should be about 10ft (3m) by 6.5ft (2m) when completed.
Some other timber I have available for this, at the bottom is one of the old bookcases - I didn't bother taking a pic of the stuff in the garage.
For windows I have a couple of double glazed units from an old conservatory, and am keeping my eye out for someone getting rid of conservatory doors.
For a new build shed with weatherproofing, insulation, & double glazed windows and (I hope) doors the cost for a shed this size goes from £2,000 for a basic one up to £12,000. Most are in the £5-7,000 range.
I will be buying roofing, waterproofing, and sealant. While I haven't done a full costing yet my overall budget is £500. That includes shelving for the books later in the year.
It'll be interesting to see how much I overshoot by. And how long it'll take me as I have health issues which saps much of my energy.
