Amethyst is a variety of #quartz.
Since amethyst is an abundant stone, its cost is not marked by carats as it is with other gemstones. The price of amethyst and therefore its economic value depends on the depth of the color. Collectors look for a purity of color, possibly with light streaks.
🔮
Its name derives from the Greek améthystos which means "not drunk". The ancient Greeks used amethyst as a jewel or to decorate glasses intended for alcohol consumption, they did so with the belief that this stone would prevent alcohol intoxication and maintain sobriety. 🔮
In mythology, Amethyst was a forest nymph who had caught the attention of Bacchus, the god of wine. Amethyst, to escape the unwanted courtship, turned to Diana, goddess of the hunt and protector of the forests.
Diana transformed Amethyst into a transparent crystal of indisputable purity. Enraged, Bacchus threw a glass of wine on the glass giving it the purplish color we know today
