Steem Basic Income

Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content.

When we talk about Steem Basic Income, what do we talk about?

In the early days of Steem Basic Income, more than a year ago, we used to share our word cloud sometimes. We haven't done that in so long I had to search to find the last time we did.

I did a double-take - why does it say 'false' in the middle of our word cloud? Do I even use that word? I'm such a positive person. So I searched the last few updates until I found the delegation report. We include a column that shows whether each member is blacklisted. 99% of delegation is from members not on any blacklist, so nothing is impeding their delegation bonuses. In this case, 'false' is a positive word!

The rest is largely as expected: sp, mvests, contests, sbi, members, steemians, etc. What I noticed different from last time is there is a lot less philosophy- the focus shifted over time from why we do things to how it works. Over the coming months, while still continuing to explain and re-explain how things work so that new members have a better initial experience, I will try to keep reiterating the why. For now, let me just say this: Steem is full of amazing people, and I was motivated to establish a framework that makes it easier for people to reward others with meaningful long-term support.

Enrollment

If you want to get involved, or to increase the basic income that you receive, enrollment is pretty straightforward:

Just send 1 STEEM to Hive account@steembasicincome. Include the name of a Steemian to sponsor in the transaction memo (preceded by @). You and the person you sponsor will each receive 1 unit in the program. You can sponsor any active Steemian, it does not have to be a current member.

The official currency for enrollment is STEEM. If we choose to accept SBD without refunding it, you do not receive extra value for it.

Enrollments are processed automatically every 144 minutes. Confirmation transactions are still manual and typically are sent within 2-3 days. Even if you have not received a welcome transaction, you can check your status using !sbi status.
