More Miniature Ships

I'm back in my 3D print shop, and I have two more models to show off. These two ships are the result of a quick test, one was successful, one still needs improvement, and I'll explain why in a bit.

The first is a 1:1800 scale model of the Borodino-class battleship, a pre-dreadnought of the Imperial Russian Navy. You can find it on Wargaming 3D
and Shapeways, and both entries have more information about it.

That is a 1-rouble coin for comparison. It's a bit smaller than a quarter dollar (Canadian and US quarters are the same size), and roughly the same diameter as a British pound, but much thinner. I have plenty of American, British, Russian, and Japanese coins to use, as well as some old French francs, but no Euros, regrettably. To be honest, I'm thinking of photographing the models next to a ruler, rather than trying to find a coin or household item that's the same size everywhere. Wait a minute - bottle caps are the same size on both sides of the pond, maybe I should save one the next time I buy beer (who knows when that will be).

The other ship I printed yesterday is a five-masted schooner, also in 1:1800 scale. Like the Borodino-class, this type of ship was used during World War I, but developed much earlier. This print is one that I need to modify, because my software placed unnecessary supports about the sails, which I can't completely clean off without power tools. Assuming my next test, with those supports completely removed, is successful, then I will make it a point to print all sailing ships the same way, and save on clean-up time.

I was hoping to test all of my World War I era ships this time round, but I forgot to finish putting the full masts on my Pallada-class cruiser when I had the chance. Well, no matter, I'll probably make up for it by printing a model of the Grozniy Klinok (Cyr. Грозный Клинок). Let me know if you think you know what that is; I'll give you a hint, it's a made-up tank. I should start printing in colour (dark olive, specifically) by the time I make more tanks. I've already added that as an option in my shop on some of the models, and I should have all options available on all models in the next few days. Formlabs colour kits aren't cheap, as each one requires its own resin tank, so I'll add one at a time. Dark olive will be first, followed by beige (for all vehicles operating in the desert, not just the British), and I'm not sure which one I'll add next - it depends on what other models I'll have added by then. In the mean time, I've also ordered castable wax, so I can start printing jewellery patterns and casting them.
