Needle Work Monday

Hello from New Jersey, USA. I've been very busy lately learning how to bead and I discovered so many techniques on YouTube, it's amazing how many talented people are out there.

My latest project, a blue necklace with a pendant, came out really pretty and I decided to share it with you guys because there is something unusual here: the chain is made with peyote stitch, in a diagonal V design. Very cool.

Here is a photo of the necklace with the pendant. In this post I am featuring the necklace, the pendant will be the subject of a future post.

The chain (we call it necklace here) looks very much like a ribbon or a lace. I used Delica beads, which are very uniform and tubular, and they create a very flat and smooth design. I worked vertically on 6 beads and increased on each row on top. For those who know peyote stitch, you guys can understand the technique. For those who want to learn the stitch, please do a search on YouTube and you will find many very useful tutorials. However, this diagonal stitch is for advanced beaders in my opinion. Here are a few photos that show the increase part step by step.

Once I did about 10 inches of chain I went back to where I started and worked my way up on the second part of the chain. I used a lobster claw clasp to finish it. In the bottom part you see a white bead that is my stop bead. I removed it when I was ready to attach the pendant. I will show you how I made the pendant in a future post.
