Finally After Over a Year… It’s Finished!!

It’s been about a year and a half since we made our first trip down to the Scoliosis Care Center in Campbell, CA. Shortly after returning I got to work constructing a Nerve Stretching table for his treatment. They offered some fancy aluminum one for sale, but at a price tag of $5,000… Not this guy. I spent the first 2 week visit examine the mechanics of this table and knew I could build one waaaaay cheaper than that.

For those that don’t know this table is designed to stretch all the nerves that run down the lower back and into the back of the legs. You know that feeling you get when stretching, when it feels like the back of your knees are on fire??? Ya, that one. Try laying down with your hips strapped down flat, then pull one leg up as high as you can

Both knees straight and hold that position for 3 minutes. Then alternate legs for 1/2 hour… it’s not fun at all. Trust me I have done it.

One thing has been missing since I build this torture device, was 2 pads that don’t allow him to cheat. These pads go just above the knee, keeping it straight. These pads have to be adjustable depending on the height of who is using it. Plus adjustable depending on the thickness of the thigh just above the knee. They also need to be able to hinder out of the way in order to get in and out easily.

My first attempt failed miserably. Just a royal pain in the ass to adjust. So during our last visit I took a photo of the clamp they use and found it on Amazon for $25…

Using a piece of my failed first attempt, I cut and welded a piece of flat metal to it. The 1/2 long piece of square tubing allows for adjustment on how tall the person is using it.

In order to attach a pad to it, I cut a piece of scrap 1/4” plywood. 4” wide and 6” long. Drilled a hole in it the size of the bolt on the clamp. Then using the red disc as a washer, I backed the boot all the way out. This clamped the plywood tightly in place.

If this isn’t redneck enough… I needed to build some kind of thick pad. We have a yoga mat laying around that we don’t use so… I’m gonna cut that up and stack them together. That way I can keep adding pieces until it it thick enough. Then use some black athletic tape and attach it to the plywood.

You see when my son is stretching we take a peak in the and many times we him relaxing his knees. Sometimes the one that is vertical in the air and other times the one that is suppose to be horizontal. These pads will make it so he can’t do that and guarantee he gets a good quality stretch.

Now that this unfinished project is done, I guess I will take a look around and find another project that needs finishing… that shouldn’t take long :wink:wink
