A Coastal Adventure

So I like hiking, camping and combining the two to get a great walk and a wildcamp at the same time.

The British coastline has some fabulous areas to walk along and the SouthWest cost path between Swanage and Weymouth is one of them. I’ve walked here many times now and know the area fairly well an when the weather is right you can have some cracking views of the landscape and the ocean.

The weather this weekend was perfect for a coastal adventure and with a little bit of planning you can avoid the traffic to get there and the people if you start your day later on. Now the days are longer you can still arrive mid afternoon and have a number of hours hiking before putting your head down for the night.

This is Anvil Point lighthouse the start of my journey along the coast path. It’s been here since 1881 and has seen many changes and is now fully automated and the cottage is now a guest house.

I now head West along the coast path in search of a place to sleep for the night.

This is Dancing Ledge, a popular place for swimmers, climbers & walkers to stop off at on their journey.

I know of an old quarry working on the cliff face that’s well hidden and would make an ideal spot to camp at for the night so make my way there and setup for the night.

These are the views from my cliff side retreat as the sun starts to set.

In this one you can just see the moon starting to appear.

Followed by the sun turning the skies red in the morning.

I get up, have breakfast and carry on along the coast before heading back to the car and home.

I walked 5 miles on the first day and 7 on the second.
