Cuando voy a Maracaibo..

"Cuando voy a Maracaibo y empiezo a pasar el puente, siento una emoción tan grande que se me nubla la mente...". No hay venezolano en el mundo que no se sepa cómo empieza esta gaita Zuliana. Así uno nunca haya pasado nunca el puente sobre el lago de Maracaibo, siente la gran emoción.

Este sentimiento tiene muchos matices, porque si eres Zuliano, estás llegando a tu tierra, a tu terruño, ese sitio en el que te criaste y en el que cada vez que lo pasas es como sentir que vuelves a casa.

Para los foráneos, es bastante distinto, y no es que no sienta emoción; es que la emoción es diferente. La primera vez que vine al Zulia hay 3 cosas primordiales que te nombran: el calor, la comida y cruzar el puente. Es como ir a New York e ir a ver la estatua de la libertad, nunca he ido pero sé que tengo que hacerlo.

Cruzar el puente es llegar a nuestro destino, es que ya se acabó la carretera, y ya nos podemos bajar y terminar el viaje. Siempre ví a esta tierra como una tierra muy lejana, porque lo era, yo siempre viví al otro lado del país y sabía que si algún día viajaba para acá iba a pasar. Ahora es mi segunda vez cruzando, y después de viajar 11 horas pude sentir una emoción muy grande, se los puedo asegurar.

"When I go to Maracaibo and I start to cross the bridge, I feel such a great emotion that my mind is clouded...". There is no Venezuelan in the world who does not know how this gaita Zuliana begins. Even if you have never crossed the bridge over Lake Maracaibo, you feel the great emotion.

This feeling has many nuances, because if you are Zuliano, you are coming to your land, to your homeland, that place where you grew up and every time you pass it is like feeling that you are coming home.

For outsiders, it's quite different, and it's not that I don't feel excitement; it's just that the excitement is different. The first time I came to Zulia there are 3 main things that come to mind: the heat, the food and crossing the bridge. It's like going to New York and going to see the Statue of Liberty, I have never been but I know I have to do it.

To cross the bridge is to arrive at our destination, it is that the road is over, and we can get off and finish the trip. I always saw this land as a very distant land, because it was, I always lived on the other side of the country and I knew that if someday I traveled here it would happen. Now it is my second time crossing, and after traveling 11 hours I could feel a great emotion, I can assure you.
