The Swings

My park-related post will be rather unusual today.

Because today I will not show you park alleys, buildings or vegetation (they are abundant in this place), but I will show you a playground. And not even a playground in the true sense of the word, but just a swing. A huge swing. With symbolic significance for the place and the locality.

Not only the colors that represent the flag of Bulgaria are symbolic, but I also suggest the size and shape of the individual single swings.

Because these swings are called "rockets". And if you apply a little more imagination, you will really agree that these are rockets. Swing rockets, which with their gigantic dimensions are designed to launch us into the sky, once entered them.

And these are very old rockets. You see that right away. These swings are more than 70 years old.

And that makes them cultural monuments, right?

So my post today is unusual for several reasons. First, when you walk in a park and in one place you see just a huge swing, without anything else, it feels strange. The appearance of these swings also looks strange. As well as their age.

If one is not aware of the history of this city, it will all seem very, very strange.

Personally, I am worried about getting on such a swing, seeing its condition.

It seems that this facility was renovated last year - cleaned, painted and strengthened. Which means these curves can't be straightened out. What could have been done was done.

But hey, these are swings more than 70 years old!

And the locals seem to be having fun here, and they have no fear that these rockets can really, quite literally, launch them into the sky.

Soul's Detour is a project started by me years ago when I had a blog about historical and not so popular tourist destinations in Eastern Belgium, West Germany and Luxembourg. Nowadays, this blog no longer exists, but I'm still here - passionate about architecture, art and mysteries and eager to share my discoveries and point of view with you.
