What is Existence?

If I can see with my eyes open and assume to be seeing reality,

Then what does it mean when my eyes are closed and I still see?

Is there an answer, in fact and not just speculation,

One that would set straight this contemplation?

It's been my belief that both are real, no matter how brief.

When a slumber of hours may be a journey of days, and that does my logic grief.

There's too few minutes in one lifetime to put these thoughts to words,

But, then, time is a relatively simple construct to trees and birds.

Is the higher function of our reasoning an advantage in this question,

Or is it a barrier to truth creating unacknowledged hesitation?
