Childhood Friendships
Looking back now, over my life, I think about the many friendships I made while growing up. Some have endured through all these years, and only now do I realize how truly special they are. There's something about a friend who's known you when you're a kid, there's an understanding there that few others can share. I have always cherished these friendships, and with passing years, I have begun to feel the many advantages that come with them.
I feel that my childhood friends and I understand each other at a level that is hard to attain with newer friendships. We have gone through so much together, and the kind of history that has been created cannot be broken. I feel unself-consciously myself in their presence, unfearing their judgment or rejection. It is pricelessly comfortable and secure to have this feeling every day.
Furthermore, childhood friends have helped me greatly in getting a better perception of myself. They have known me for such a long time, and they have seen me go through different phases of life. From this, they had a very different view about my personality and behavior. I often learn a lot about myself from their observation and insights and thus become more self-aware.
One of the things that I so love about childhood friendships is the attendant nostalgia. Every time I am with my old friends, we always do a lot of reminiscing, about old times, the laughter, the tears, the bankers' tons of memories we had shared. It's like this certain nostalgic mood booster, always leaving me in good spirits and very grateful. Something as basic as a conversation with an old friend whisks me to another time and place, one full of happy memories and carefree moments.
Of course, the task of keeping up childhood friendship isn't an easy one. People grow older, and life branches out in different ways, so staying in touch can be challenging. Well, some of my childhood friends and I lost touch over the years. It's sad to see a friendship fade away, little by little. On a more positive note, though, I have also learned that it is never too late to get in touch with an old friend. Keeping in touch and rekindling any old friendships nowadays isn't that difficult at all, especially with the help of technology.
For me, the secret behind keeping one's childhood friendships consists of making an effort. Okay, that could be as easy as just a text or call once in a while.
So what are you waiting for, pick up that phone and just send a hi to that awesome buddy.
