Have you ever try to find a Firewall that is great and is OpenSource? And have you ever try to find an alternative to windows firewall because it does not cater almost all of your needs?

So today i'll be taking you out to the best rated OpenSource firewall, its name is pfSense. When you go through the website i provided you will notice a buy now button and a free trial option, then in your mind you will formulate some questions like this,

  • Why it has a button like that?
  • Is it OpenSource or not?
  • Why it has a "Buy Now" button?

OpenSource Softwares are not necessarily its free, because OpenSource Software means

"is a type of computer software whose source code is released under a license in which the copyright holder grants users the rights to study, change, and distribute the software to anyone and for any purpose".

'Credits to wikipedia for description.

Here are some features that pfSense offered (Features are based from their official website)

  • Filtering by source and destination IP, IP protocol, source and destination port for TCP and UDP traffic
  • Limit simultaneous connections on a per-rule basis
  • Option to log or not log traffic matching each rule.
*Transparent layer 2 firewalling capable - can bridge interfaces and filter traffic between them, even allowing for an IP-less firewall (though you probably want an IP for management purposes).

Pros:

  • Developers who would like to add up some features are free to change the software
  • It is rated as best OpenSource firewall

Cons:

  • Non for this

Looks interesting? Found some pros and cons on this product? Just leave a comment down here and lets exchange some wonderful ideas! Thanks for reading!
