Quran 5:17 — Allah Alone is Sovereign
Assalam o Alaikum!
Today I would like to share a beautiful reflection on Quran 5:17, a verse that emphasizes the absolute power, authority, and uniqueness of Allah.
"They have indeed become disbelievers who say, 'The Messiah, the son of Maryam, is certainly Allah.' Say, 'Who can then do anything against Allah, if He wills to destroy the Messiah, the son of Maryam, and his mother and everyone on earth?' And for Allah only is the kingship of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; He creates whatever He wills, and Allah is Able to do all things."
(Quran 5:17)
Reflection
This verse reminds us that Allah alone possesses complete authority over creation. Everything in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him. No human being, no prophet, and no created being shares in His divine power.
The Quran respectfully acknowledges Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him) and his mother Maryam (peace be upon her), while clearly teaching that they were servants of Allah, dependent upon Him like all other creatures.
The verse presents a powerful question: if Allah wills something, who can prevent it? This highlights the limitless power of the Creator and the dependence of all creation upon Him.
Lessons We Can Learn
• Allah alone deserves worship.
• All human beings, including prophets, are servants of Allah.
• The kingdom of the heavens and the earth belongs exclusively to Allah.
• Allah creates whatever He wills.
• Nothing can oppose Allah's decree and power.
About the Photo
The peaceful rural landscape in the background beautifully complements the message of the verse. Looking at the vast sky, the land, and the creation around us reminds us of Allah's ownership of everything we see and everything beyond our sight.
Conclusion
Quran 5:17 calls us to reflect on the greatness of Allah and His complete sovereignty over the universe. It encourages us to strengthen our faith, worship Allah alone, and recognize that all power and authority ultimately belong to Him.
May Allah guide us to the truth and strengthen our belief in His Oneness. Ameen.
