Installing an old controller in Windows 10 [Eng+Spa]

Some time ago, I had told you in the Outlast post, that it was a very enjoyable game. But it was very awkward to play on a keyboard, it was best played with a controller, so I'd pick it up when I could get one.

Searching through my boxes I found an old remote that I had bought a few years ago. I wanted to use it to play games, but for some reason, I couldn't get it to work on Windows 10.

Check out some guides and tutorials on the internet and search my backup disks for the Xbox controller emulator that I had installed at the time.

It's all very simple, surely it may be something you know, but I thought it was a good idea to share how I did it, as a small tutorial, in case anyone finds it useful.

The first thing was to use the installation disk that the command brings us.

After installing, I go into settings and look for the update and security section.

In the recovery section, I select under advanced startup “reboot now”.

The computer takes us to a restart screen, in which we will choose "Troubleshoot".

On the next screen we choose “advanced options”.

On the advanced options screen, choose “Startup Settings”.

It shows us a series of options that we can choose, but we cannot yet tell the computer which one we want. We take the only option which is to restart.

In our case, I needed the option that says “disable forced use of signed drivers” (number 7 on my computer).

After entering the option number, the computer restarts and no longer blocks the use of drivers that are not digitally signed, at most it will ask if you want to use them.

If you want to reverse the option, you just have to repeat the procedure, and thus block them again.

Now we go to the device manager, and look for our controller, in my case I opened the manager in "human interface devices" and since I wasn't sure, the name didn't appear, I just unplugged the controller and then plugged it back in. (primitive, but effective)

I asked you to update the drivers with the drivers on my PC manually.

On this screen I had compatible hardware selected and I used the ones indicated in the box, I didn't have to look for anything else. (It said signed drivers, but the previous times I tried to install the controller, without going through this process, I couldn't get the games to recognize it.)

To emulate I used a program that had been given to me called X360_CE. I had to add XP compatibility and always run as administrator.

The program asks you to install the files that it brings in the executable folder for the game, and to close the program before starting the game. (It's just a couple of small extra files)

I only had to edit the location of the X and B buttons, when you press the buttons on the controller, you will be able to verify them on the screen. It is very simple to use and does not touch practically anything else. If it works fine, I don't think I'm going to touch anything else.

It works fine for me with most games, only the first Borderlands has the issue of spinning out of control. But I don't mind unplugging the controller and playing it with a keyboard and mouse.

Well, it's very simple and I didn't need to buy another controller, I quite like this one that I already have.

This procedure worked for my particular case, I'm not saying it's infallible, but it worked for me.

Hace un tiempo, les había comentado en la publicación de Outlast, que era un juego muy ameno. Pero era muy incómodo de jugar con teclado, era mejor jugarlo con un mando, así que lo retomaría cuando pudiese tener uno.

Buscando entre mis cajas encontré un viejo mando que había comprado hace unos años. Quise usarlo para jugar, pero por algún motivo, no lograba hacerlo funcionar en Windows 10.

Revise algunas guías y tutoriales por internet y busque en mis discos de respaldo, el emulador de mando para Xbox, que en su momento tenía instalado.

Es todo muy sencillo, de seguro puede que sea algo que conocen, pero me pareció buena idea compartir como lo hice, a modo de pequeño tutorial, por si a alguno le parece útil.

Lo primero fue usar el disco de instalación que nos trae el mando.

Luego de instalar, entro en configuración y busco el apartado de actualización y seguridad.

En la sección de recuperación, selecciono en inicio avanzado “reiniciar ahora”.

El computador nos lleva a una pantalla de reinicio, en la que escogeremos “Solucionar problemas”.

En la siguiente pantalla elegimos “opciones avanzadas”.

En la pantalla de opciones avanzadas escogemos “Configuración de inicio”.

Nos muestra una serie de opciones que podemos escoger, pero no podemos aún indicarle al computador cuál queremos. Tomamos la única opción que es reiniciar.

En nuestro caso, necesitaba la opción que indica “deshabilitar el uso obligatorio de controladores firmados”(número 7 en mi computador).

Luego de entrar el número de la opción, se reinicia el computador y ya no bloquea el uso de controladores que no estén firmados digitalmente, a lo sumo preguntara si quieres usarlos.

Si quiere revertir la opción, solo tiene que repetir el procedimiento, y así los bloquea nuevamente.

Ahora vamos al administrador de dispositivos, y buscamos nuestro mando, en mi caso abrí el administrador en “dispositivos de interfaz humana” y como no estaba seguro, no aparecía el nombre, simplemente desconecte el mando y luego lo volví a conectar. (primitivo, pero efectivo)

Le pedí actualizar los controladores con los controladores en mi PC de forma manual.

En esta pantalla tenía seleccionado hardware compatible y usé los que me indicaban en el recuadro, no tuve que buscar nada más. (Decía controladores firmados, pero las veces anteriores que trate de instalar el mando, sin seguir todo este proceso, no lograba que los juegos lo reconocieran.)

Para emular usé un programa que me habían regalado llamado X360_CE. Tuve que ponerle compatibilidad con XP y que se ejecutara siempre como administrador.

El programa pide que se instalen los archivos que trae en la carpeta del ejecutable para el juego, y que cierres el programa antes de iniciar el juego. (Solo son un par de pequeños archivos adicionales)

Yo solo tuve que editar la ubicación de los botones X y B, al pulsar los botones del mando, podrán verificarlos en la pantalla. Es muy sencillo de usar y no toque prácticamente nada más. Si funciona bien, no creo que voy a tocar nada más.

Me funciona bien con la mayoría de los juegos, solo el primer Borderlands tiene el problema de que gira sin control. Pero no me molesta desconectar el mando y jugarlo con teclado y ratón.

Bien, es algo muy sencillo y no tuve necesidad de comprar otro mando, me gusta bastante este que ya tengo.

Este procedimiento me sirvió para mi caso particular, no digo que sea infalible, pero a mí me funciono.
