The Deep Darkness
It is easy to dismiss evil as craziness.
To look no further than one's own grasp of perspective.
It is much simpler not to question the motives of those whose actions we cannot fathom or rationalize.
Out there in the night, so many things await beyond our reckoning.
Things that only come out to play in the dark.
Monsters of all kinds.
Terrifying...
But also fascinating.
A scientist stands at the brink of darkness.
Gazing out upon roiling seas of chaos and madness,
Stark against the shoreline of the known,
The commonly known, the rational,
The well documented,
And peer reviewed.
Holding up whatever implement of casting light technology allows,
Calling into the inky pitch and inviting the storm,
The monsters,
The horror.
Dutifully documenting all of it,
Trying to make sense of the whirlwind.
