Art Talk: Rotraut
I thought I was done with the artist highlights for 2022 and last week I posted Art Talk: Artists Highlighted in 2022 it is a great collection of fantastic artists.
On Saturday I went to the Desert Botanical Garden and there was a really great exhibit by Rotraut Klein-Moquay. I really enjoyed her art and learning about her so I am going to highlight her this year too.
She is a German French artist. She was born in Germany in 1938 and now lives in my home state of Arizona! She started her art with reliefs and monoprints in 1957 and her first solo exhibition in 1959. She started doing monumental sculptures after moving to Arizona.
This exhibit had both sculpture and painting and is her way of expressing her environment, emotion and the galaxies.

Rotraut's sculptures are very interesting. Very large metal sculptures painted a solid color, sometimes with sparkly paint, in swirly designs. They fit nicely in the desert landscape.
The gallery was wonderful. It had some smaller sculptures and some paintings. I really liked paintings and gravitate to them.
The piece that I spent the most time at is Rainbow Bridge. It is a colorful array of dancers posing on a bridge. I was so fun to photograph!
More of the garden! My happy place!
I am so happy that it is cool and I can go walk around the Desert Botanical Garden again. I really love being outside and with these interesting and unique plants and it seems there is always an artist having an exhibition. I am so happy to learn about and see Rotraut's work.
