  • The president has approved the award for 85 individuals which includes 3 Padma vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 73 Padmashri.
  • 14 of the awardees are women and 3 persons have been awarded posthumously.
  • The awards are announced on the eve of the republic day every year.
  • The 2017 world weightlifting champion Saikhom MiraBai Chanu and former Asian Games gold medalist tennis player Somdev Devvarman have been conferred with the Padmashri.
  • Ilayaraja, Ghulam Mustafa Khan (art) and Parameswaran (literature and education) were awarded with Padma vibhushan.
  • Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Pankaj Advani are among the others awarded with Padma Bhushan.
