PETRIFIED.......HARD AS A ROCK!!!!

The process of wood becoming petrified begins when it is covered with sediment or volcanic ash to remove all oxygen to prevent decay. This takes million's of years, and minerals from the water are deposited into the cells of the wood. All this takes place before the wood decays.

The rapid burial of the wood is the key, such as a volcanic eruption, and petrified wood is considered a semi-precious gemstone!!
