Commemorative Coin No.2: The U.S. Capitol
I love historical structures. So for today's article, I want to show a Commemorative U.S. Silver Dollar that was minted to honor a historical building.
1994-D US Bicentennial of the U.S. Capitol Commemorative Silver Dollar, PCGS MS70
The obverse features the detailed image of the Capitol Dome. A halo of thirteen stars that represent our nation's thirteen original states is above. The designer-engraver of the obverse of the 1994 Commemorative U.S. Silver Dollar is William Cousins.
The reverse of this coin was designed by John Mercanti. It is a recreation of a portion of the stained-glass window as seen in the House and Senate grand staircases of the U.S. Capitol.
These are photos of what is depicted on the obverse and reverse of the coin, as shown in the brochure that came with the raw uncirculated proof version of the coin.
It came in a beautiful presentation package that includes a brochure showing the architectural history of the U.S. Capitol.
Use the slider just below the photos below to read what is in the brochure.
