Borrow against your bitcoin with no margin call
Bitcoin Loan and no risk of margin call???
Wonderful!
Introduction:
I recently prop[osed a way to borrow against your Hive and get HBD. And I proposed that you didn't sell your Hive or risk losing it in a margin call due to price volatility. And at the time I stated it would be lovely if such a thing existed for Bitcoin. Well ask and you shall receive. Coinbase and a company called Better Loans have delivered. Better Loans provides the capitol, Coinbase provides the holding account for your bitcoin with guarantees of no loaning out your bitcoin like Voyager and other businesses did...
Details:
SO this program starts this summer, and I have read stories about it, and I keep checking the Coinbase website for it's official launch.
This is what I know so far...
- Coinbase lets you borrow money for a house down payment without selling your crypto.
- Thanks to a parternship with Better Home and Finance, you can lock up your Bitcoin or USDC in a Coinbase Prime account.
- This money is used to protect a second loan that pays for your down payment.
Here is how the program works:
- Two Loans, One Payment:
You get a regular mortgage loan and a down payment loan, but you onli pay one bill every month.
- No Tax Taxes:
Because you do not sell your crypto, you do not have to pay extra money to the government.
- **How Much Crypto you
Need:** If you use Bitcoin, you must put in two and a half times more money than you borrow. If you use USDC, you need to put in wone and a quarter times more.
- Price Drops Are Okay:
If your crypto drops in value, your loan stays the same. They will only take your crypto if you stop paying your bill for 60 days.
- Coinbase One Rewards:
Members can get a special deal that pays back 1% of the loan value (up to $10,000) to help pay for closing costs.
- Loan Interest Rates: These loans cost a little bit more than normal loans. The interest rates are usually 0.5 to 1.5 percent higher.
Last words...
That's what I know so far, and it is exciting in a way, because it is a move forward in the right direction.
