Yesterday's fish buying experience.

Yesterday, on a holiday, I went to the local market to buy some fresh fish for my family. In our Bengali culture, the Bengali word for fish and rice did not come up just like that, if there is no fish in the daily diet, it seems that there is no satisfaction. However, the market situation is quite different these days. The first shock that the common man experiences when he goes to the market is the high price of fish. In every fish shop, the sellers are charging high prices, which is going beyond the reach of the middle class and ordinary buyers.

Upon entering the market, the first thing that caught his eye was a collection of live fish in large containers. The sellers are constantly sprinkling water on the fish to keep it fresh. Especially the live fish like Sing, Magur and Pangash fish are beautifully arranged in quite large containers. Although I wanted to buy them after seeing the fresh fish, I had to stop a bit after hearing the price. The price of each fish seemed much higher than in the past few weeks.

Then, as I moved a little further inside, I saw small and medium-sized white fish arranged in rows on a table covered with red cloth. There, the fish seller was trying to attract buyers by shining bright lights on his shop. The scales of the fish were shining under the lights and the fish were being measured continuously on the scales kept next to it. Here, the abundance of fish like rui, mrigal and carp was remarkable. But here too, there was no relief in terms of prices. I had to haggle with the sellers for quite some time.

In another part of the market, the sellers were sitting on large benches covered with blue tarpaulin, arranging different species of fish. There, pabda, tangra, tilapia and large-sized rui or katla fish were neatly stacked. Buyers were surrounding them and bargaining. Despite the abundant supply of fish in the market, there was no sign of a decrease in prices.

All in all, the price of fish in the market is now skyrocketing. It has become quite difficult for the common man to meet the daily requirement of this essential protein. Still, considering the family's nutrition and preferences, I finally bought some fresh fish after bargaining a bit. Although the pocket was a little lighter due to the price, at the end of the day, the smile of satisfaction on the faces of everyone in the family and the taste of fresh fish made me forget the trouble.
