Our visit to one of Sweden's oldest family farms

We spent last weekend exploring the Swedish countryside, and one of the best parts was stopping at Birgit's farm!

On our way back from Kägleholm Castle Ruins, I saw a sign that said "EGG". This made me curious, so I decided to explore.

I soon found out that the sign was referring to a nearby farm. The scenery on the way to Skogsberg farm is absolutely breathtaking. The route takes you through an alley.

When we arrived at the farm, we were greeted by a very friendly lady. She told us that her name is Birgit and this Farm is one of Sweden's oldest family farms. Skogsberg has been home to 15 generations, her family that begins with its roots as early as the 15th century. The farm is run as a simple farm with animals, forest and leased agriculture. Currently, her younger generations are preparing to run the farm with a focus on public education and culture.

She showed us around the farm and introduced us to her animals. She told us about her hens that go outdoors during the day, and also receive Swedish-produced feed.

After talking for a while It turns out that she lived in Sigtuna when she was young but moved to the farm because of her mother's illness. When we told her that we visited Kägleholm Castle, she told us that it has now been bought by a German and the entire island is closed to private use. Previously, you could walk around the entire island.

She asked us where we're from in Stockholm and I said from Vällingby, she told us I used to stay there a lot when I was younger.
Vällingby was not very populated in the 50s, it was very empty and boring. When she lived in Sigtuna, she often visited her friend at Vällingby. Her friend's father was an air traffic controller and traveled a lot. He was also the one who launched Thai Air in Sweden in the 1950s.

After our tour, we bought some free-range hens eggs from Birgit and said goodbye. It was a really fun experience getting to see where our food comes from and learn about farming!

Birgit is an incredibly beautiful person. Such a hospitable and welcoming person. She even offered to come sometime to watch us making sheepskin rug.

Walking through an unknown place can sometimes be so much more of an experience.
